Our Epic Empty Nester Adventure, has wrapped up and we’re already planning the next one 🍾 We did so much, with just one flight over the pond and expert logistical planning, VIP all the way. Cheered on Team USA in Paris, day trips to Normandy and Mont St Michel, played in Scotland for cool highlands fun (60 degrees every glorious day!) and tail ended for four fabulous days in London visiting our fav five star hotels and working in new experiences for both us all along the way 💕 Are you an empty nester? Loved seeing Murdo Mitchell playing on the streets Loved seeing Murdo Mitchell playing on the streets of Edinburgh, such raw talent. This Glasgow musician has quite a story (google him!), and is such a nice guy, can’t wait to watch him keep rising. I bought his CD to bring to Texas the sound of Edinburgh - such a great city to wander the streets and listen to live music, pop into a pub for a pint between artists - you never know who you’ll hear. The busker culture here is real, a great way for artists to get discovered. I’m hoping he comes back to Austin to play again. Check him out! The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo happens once a year, the first 3 weeks of August and is sight and sound to behold. To see the bagpipers, drummers, bands, and dancers from Scotland, the US and around the world emerge from inside the castle walls out of the mist like they have for centuries over the Scottish moors. The light show and interactive displays on the stone walls tell the stories of the music. It’s stunning - you have to see it at least once in your lifetime. The Tattoo funds and supports military veterans and traditional arts in Scotland - the show is nightly, but tickets go fast. Reservations are a must and I’m super picky about where we seat clients, we know which sections have the best views, easiest access, and which of the pre-evening events (and best pubs!) are worth it…and which are too touristy. Meet Baron 💕this big beautiful boy loves dressa Meet Baron 💕this big beautiful boy loves dressage, and I loved taking him for a spin today in the ring at the Equestrian Center @thegleneagleshotel. Strong and sensitive, riding Baron was like driving a finely tuned sports car, one squeeze of the leg on either side and he knew exactly where I wanted him to go, I barley needed the reins. He also knows he’s a beautiful boy and loves the camera 📷 had to keep him on track or he would try to stop to pose for one more selfie! Next time at Gleneagles I’ll do the Hacking and take one of these beauties out into the Scottish countryside to run through the hills. It was all booked up for our dates - but I’ll be back! Gleneagles is one of the few five star properties with an equestrian center where you can do so much more than a nose to tail trail ride. What a night on the beach stadium - lots of excite What a night on the beach stadium - lots of excitement 🤣We watched a great Poland v France Men’s match then the ladies took center court for the big finale. Americans were out in full force to cheer on Team USA ladies (an LSU Tiger and the tall blond is from South Dakota, she converted from indoor to beach!) vs a tough team from China. We were coming back in the third set but Mother Nature had other ideas and rained like chats et chiens causing us all to be evacuated out of the stadium, and hide under the rafters while the lighting sirens went off. Texans on the sand! We made it to Beach Volleyball Texans on the sand! We made it to Beach Volleyball at 9am this morning with 4 matches back to back. Highlight was the Womens Spain v Egypt, it must have been 95 degrees on the sand with the Spain team in bikinis and Egypt in all black fully covered. They must have been hot - but these women played well! The Beach Stadium built in front of the Eiffel tower is rocking, makes you feel like an afternoon on the sand in San Diego, super fun. We head back tonight for the evening matches between Brazil, Italy, Poland, France and USA Women’s Team takes to the sand at 10pm, Paris Time! We scored last minute center court Loge seats to see Novak Djokovic 💪v Dominik Koepfer 🇩🇪 I was able to see Federer play twice before he retired, my first time to see Djokovic live - he’s so much fun to watch! These two are so powerful, consistent 195-205 mph serves, sliding all over the clay to get shots. I love playing on clay - it really makes you be a strategic player between hitting winners, drops, lobs to give you time to reposition and overhead slams, it was a blast. Koepfer gave him a run for the money and it’s 110 degrees on the court (and 95 in the stadium 😅). But who cares? Its The Olympics! Here, anything can happen…I got these killer tickets for less than face an hour before the match on a resale site from the nicest guy from Spain who called us to make sure we got them, were okay and got in. We only knew they were Section A - he didn’t happen to mention they were centre court of 6 rows up! I’m wondering if these are player family seats (Nadal ?). I have always loved Dressage and tried it as kid but a severe hay allergy kept me from riding until my 20s. I could watch it all day long. These dual athletes, and their relationship 💕 Each horse and rider take years to train together getting to know each other and the intricate steps, passes, canters in synch, it’s so beautiful to see with the chateau as a backdrop. We got lucky cooling off in the shade when the Canadian rider, Naima, riding Statesman came out after competing to see her family and friends, Go Canada! 🇨🇦 In other words news, it HOT, 93 in the shade and we have sweated through our great outfits. Bomber Pilot and Texas’ own Foy Draper as well, a track and field Olympian in the 1936 Berlin Games, a mighty 5 foot 5 sprinter. And you will never guess how the popular Jeep got its name, right here during WWII. Normandy is a must - you have to see this hallowed ground where so many young men carried the weight of the free world on their shoulders, to liberate a land that was not their own - and gave the ultimate sacrifice. What a relief to read the real story of the Niland family, the four brothers the movie Saving Private Ryan was based on …while brothers Preston and Robert were tragically killed on the first and the second day of the D Day landing, the third brother, Eddie - thought also to be MIA - was actually later found alive in a POW Camp, and then of course Fritz, played by Matt Damon was called home to his family. I easily found Preston and Robert’s graves, side by side, forever together overlooking the stunning vista of Omaha Beach. There are four civilians who earned the right to be buried here, including Elizabeth Richardson, an artist, athlete and American Red Cross Volunteer whose plane went down just a few months after the liberation. Please, explore Normandy at least once. I’ll help you navigate which sites to see first, and how to split up your time. For me, going back again meant I could double click on the stories behind the battle. I could spend a week just absorbing how 100,000 lives came together and many ended. The heroes and the heartbreak. All for freedom. We made it! 6:53pm Paris time, less than 1 hour to We made it! 6:53pm Paris time, less than 1 hour to showtime! When you see it on TV we’re just before the boats pass Notre Dame! We’ll wave 👋 We made it to our Opening Ceremony seats by metro since we’re staying on the Right Bank in the 8th and our allotted entry point was on the Left Bank in 5th in St Germain des Pres - and they closed all the bridges to any traffic at 1pm today. Nothing like coming in hot to the Opening Ceremony - Fun times! We scrambled as the metro stops were closing one by one and caught the 1 train to the 7 under the Seine River to the 10 and popped up 200 feet from the our security point. Whew! No lie - we almost lost Laynes good leg when the train doors closed on it and a friendly Frenchman pried them open as I imagined my husband being dragged along (Mon Dieu!) and us making the evening news - but he’s okay 💪 We arrived at gate B2 in plenty of time, stopped for pizza and cocktails before heading in. Look for us! You can’t miss all 6 feet 4 of him in his @academy Team USA shirt 🇺🇸 On y va!
